As assistant principal at John Thomas School of Discovery, Ryan Mahn champions access to science, technology, engineering, arts and math, or STEAM education.
Mahn, 38, cultivates space for students to develop their potential. He started the student council to foster leadership and models service to others and sustainability.
“I helped procure and construct a large greenhouse and farmers market stand to teach students entrepreneurial practices and where their food comes from,” he says. “These spaces and opportunities created a thriving business, and we frequently are able to donate produce to Least of These to support local families.”
His work at JTSD led to creation of an in-house consulting firm to train other teachers on STEAM.
