YOUR BUSINESS AUTHORITY
Springfield, MO
As director of the Center for Community Engagement at Missouri State University, Alex B. Johnson mobilizes community and on-campus resources such as the Bear Pantry.
“I view leadership not as authority, but as a responsibility to serve, especially during moments of challenge and change,” he says.
Johnson, 36, coordinates volunteers, identifies resources and helps programs adapt to changing conditions.
Last year, amid funding cuts, he forged partnerships to sustain services amid record demand.
“Higher education should be a pathway to opportunity, belonging, and purpose – but too often, basic needs and systemic barriers stand in the way,” he says. “My work in community engagement allows me to address those barriers directly while helping students connect learning with service and meaningful action.”
He is an active community volunteer and mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ozarks Inc.
