YOUR BUSINESS AUTHORITY

Being a trusted adviser means putting yourself in the client’s shoes for the problem, but wearing your own shoes for the solution. It’s the theory Jonathan Hodges, vice president of technology at Classy Llama Studios LLC, has followed to establish his reputation as an expert in his dynamic field.
“I need to be able to put myself in the clients’ shoes and think about how I would advise them if I was in their business,” he says.
Hodges graduated with a bachelor’s in computer science and mathematics from Evangel University and holds numerous software- and program-specific certifications. Throughout his 18-year career, Hodges has partnered with more than 100 e-commerce merchants, providing a range of services including business and systems consultation; AI and data strategy; and e-commerce architecture.
“That breadth lets me attack problems from multiple angles and deliver more value in less time,” he says. “Because I understand both business goals and deep-tech constraints, I can spot platform limits early and choose the quickest, lowest-cost path to value.”
When it comes to tech implementation, clients often have a goal in mind but may not know the most efficient way to get there. Hodges prides himself on the ability to communicate difficult truths early and present alternate solutions that will reap better results.
“Often there is a solution that is just a little different than what they’re proposing that will accomplish all or most of their goals at a fraction of the cost and complexity long-term,” he says.
Clients take his advice because Hodges emphasizes building trust through listening closely, displaying emotional intelligence, providing creative solutions, being willing to speak truthfully, keeping commitments and demonstrating technical competence.
“The skillset of connecting with and understanding people is kind of the differentiator in every field,” he says. “It’s where you find that combination of truly being an expert in the field and being able to connect well.”
Hodges advised Virginia-based manufacturer Inorganic Ventures through a website overhaul in 2022. Madeline Denny, client operations manager, says his support resulted in long-term success.
“I appreciate Jonathan’s ability to uncover our needs, provide expert advice and keep us growing and moving in a direction we can be proud of,” she says.
Hodges has mentored more than 20 junior developers and four project managers in addition to being a volunteer deacon, small group leader and IT admin for Dayspring Church.
