Whether obtaining millions in grant funding for clients or designing vital infrastructure systems, Toth and Associates Inc. is a powerhouse in the Springfield region and beyond. The firm was founded in 2003 with a primary focus on electric utility engineering. Since then, it has expanded into several new states with multidisciplinary offerings including electrical, civil and structural engineering, land surveying and grant writing. Revenue grew by nearly 18% from 2023 to 2024 with an approximately 113% increase over the past five years. Toth’s local employee growth increased by 8.3% in 2024.
“We haven’t forced growth,” says President Adam Toth. “We keep our ears open for opportunity and, when we see an opportunity, we’re very nimble as an organization.”
Toth provides services to electric utilities and municipalities including City Utilities of Springfield and the city of Nixa among numerous others. Its grants department has helped more than 150 public entities obtain over $350 million in FEMA funding for safe rooms and assisted 13 clients in securing nearly $20 million in American Rescue Plan Act funding for water infrastructure.
“These communities are able to make a once-in-a-generation investment in the water systems,” Toth said. “Clean water is instrumental, monumental for every community.”
Toth partners with Missouri State University to retain local talent. Through a 2021 donation to the school’s foundation supporting the Cooperative Engineering Program, a classroom and lab now bear the Toth name. Providing fair wages, equal opportunities and continuing education for employees creates a further economic impact with most employees making an average of more than $100,000.
“I’ve got over 200 families here that depend on me for their livelihoods, they’re providing for a family, I feel an obligation to make this job the best I possibly can for them,” Toth said. “Whenever people think about what are some engineering hubs in the U.S., I would love for somebody to think of Springfield, Missouri, one day.”
Toth employees have raised more than $13,000 over the past four years for local charities alongside individual and company-based civic involvement with organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ozarks Inc. In 2024, Toth also launched a companywide giving campaign for United Way of the Ozarks.
