In November 2022, Sunni Nutt purchased Essential Yoga Studio while still maintaining her position as director of operations of Boys & Girls Club of Springfield.
“I have no plans at this time to give up either endeavor but only to build on the strong foundation I have set for myself,” says Nutt, 38.
Nutt’s success is built on a foundation of overcoming what she refers to as deeply ingrained generational cycles of poverty, mental illness and domestic violence – always with the goal of helping people who are facing the same challenges.
She notes the dual role in nonprofit leadership and small-business owner is not an achievement she could have foreseen in her wildest dreams. And she has received encouragement from people in both worlds.
“I have been bolstered by this support and empowered to persevere,” she says.

Best piece of advice you’ve ever received? My grandma believed in me above everyone and everything and is a huge part of who I am today. She said: “Pray for those who hurt you and put it in God’s hands and leave it there. Then go and trust your judgment and enjoy your life.”
