2022 Health Care Champions Administrator: A. Breanna Jain

Eustasis Psychiatric & Addiction Health

A. Breanna Jain’s professional journey began as a mother on a mission seeking mental health care access for her child and has developed into her leading four clinics that serve more than 20,000 patients in Missouri and Arkansas.

As CEO and nurse practitioner at Eustasis Psychiatric & Addiction Health, Jain developed a walk-in, same-day care model that makes mental health a priority.

“We have saved lives,” Jain says. “Daily, we intervene and keep our residents in this area from taking their own life, and we are able to do so because they got care now versus six months from now.”

Jain moved to the Springfield area in 2010 as a single mother and a university student. She felt grateful for the support given to her by the community, which deepened her desire to give back.

“While I was going back to school to be a leader in the medical profession, I faced many adversities,” she says. “But this community had resources for me as a mom. Between the school system, day cares, colleges, my church, division of family services and many other wonderful people, I was able to eventually graduate with highest honors from (University of Missouri-Kansas City) with my doctoral degree as a board-certified mental health nurse practitioner and addiction specialist.”

Her motivation is also based on personal experience as the mother of a child with mental health needs. She experienced how her child was prevented from access to care because of wait times. This led to many long nights researching mental health care models and aspiring to something better for the patients who, just like her son, deserved immediate, quality care.

“I decided my role was to be a change agent, and, in 2018, my husband and I opened our doors to the first Eustasis and did just that,” she says. “When I started this organization in the role of both provider and CEO, we went from serving nine patients our first day to 350-plus a day organizationwide.”

Jain additionally says her calling is to help diverse populations know that “circumstances do not define them.” She considers herself as an advocate for women in administrative positions, providing support and encouragement as they navigate multiple roles.

Jain is president of the Eustasis Foundation Inc., on the medical team for James River Church, and is the speaker chairman for Ozarks Area Crisis Intervention Team. She is active in supporting other community helpers and is involved with initiatives, such as providing Narcan emergency overdose medication to those at high risk.

In each role, Jain’s focus is providing greater access.

“My role was to ensure that patients and families like my own little boy would never have to go months without seeing a mental health provider again,” Jain says.

“I felt that it was an imperative and necessary change to make not only in the Ozarks but globally, and I have made it my life’s work to do so.”
