His job is to execute social media marketing for the Springfield Cardinals LLC, but Matt Turer, 33, says his passion is documenting Springfield sports history.
Whether it’s a Major League Baseball player who is rehabbing with the Double-A squad or local children running the bases, Turer is there with his camera.
Since starting with the team in 2018, Turer has seen a 20% growth in followers on social media – the second highest tally in the Double-A league – to over 162,000 followers on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. During the pandemic, he says he was proud to keep fans and sponsors engaged while creating a point of pride for the team and the city. He also helped plan events to welcome and include LGBTQ and Hispanic fans to Hammons Field.
Turer sees himself as the connection between the fans and the team.
“I take my job very seriously,” he says. “I am the voice behind the team that they love.”
