Dan Schumacher knows Millwood Golf and Racquet Club in Ozark better than he knows his trusty 9-iron. He’s worked there for 22 years, although not straight because he took a four-year detour managing Fremont Hills Country Club.
A call from a banker in 2012 got him back on the Millwood greens.
“The bank approached me about purchasing it and I did,” Schumacher, 56, recalls of the deal negotiated by Great Southern Bank in late 2012 to rescue the course from a near foreclosure. “They wanted me back and made me a great offer. It was Joe Turner himself who came after me to get it.”
Schumacher and family members bought Millwood for $5 million from the Keltner family, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting. The Schumachers have since spent another $1 million to update the clubhouse and tennis courts, and add a pool.
Best advice to young professionals? Learn to become the best communicator to your people that work for you and your customers. I think that’s a skill we’re missing now.
