As a financial adviser with Edward Jones, Weston Kissee envisions his role with clients as quarterback of the creation, execution and protection of their goals.
“The expectations are set very high – by my clients and by myself,” he says. “It’s my job to think of things they haven’t thought of themselves, whether it’s a new strategy to leverage or a potential hazard for them to avoid.”
Kissee was named general partner in 2018 for the company he has worked for since 2008. He graduated in 2008 from Drury University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
He became a field trainer with Edward Jones in 2010 and has been a regional leader since 2014. In that leadership role, he volunteers to guide 64 other financial advisers and their branch teams.
With nearly 350 clients combining for a net worth of approximately $500 million, assets under management by Kissee have risen to $135 million in 2018 from $100 million in 2016.
“Clients generally want to feel understood, in control, informed and secure,” he says, adding his role is to help them feel all four while they accomplish whatever matters most to them.
Noting every client has a goal of increasing their assets or seeing a higher return on investments, Kissee said, “getting to the root of that desire can be a very emotional process.”
Sometimes that work means meeting with clients on their terms, helping connect them with outside industry experts and protecting their financial well-being. In the latter instance, Kissee recalls helping a client save tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of dollars when they were targeted by a financial scam. He contacted his firm’s fraud department, the supposed employer of a person in the scam and the U.S. State Department.
“I earned zero dollars for my time through this situation, but it was right to go above the call of duty,” he says.
A graduate of Leadership Springfield Signature Class 32, Kissee has made community involvement a focus throughout his professional career. That includes extended stints with Rotaract Club of Springfield and the Drury University Alumni Council, 2009-16. Rotaract honored Kissee as 2011-12 board member of the year. He also was honored in the 2015 class of Springfield Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 and 417 Magazine’s 20 Under 30 class in 2012.
He is currently a member of The Network, the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce’s group for young professionals, and Young Life Greater Ozarks, an outreach program designed to help at-risk adolescents.
His community service also has overlap with his profession, as Edward Jones is the national presenting sponsor of the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Along with annually organizing his own team, Kissee gets involved regionally by coordinating teams to walk in communities throughout southern Missouri.
The Alzheimer’s Association event has a personal connection for Kissee.
“I am passionate about this organization because my grandfather passed away from complications from dementia,” he says.
