Duckett Ladd LLP

With 13 years of accounting experience under his belt, Jared Duckett has developed a clear vision on his role when advising clients.

He sees himself as a guide to his clients, “in order for them [to] become the hero of their business.”

In so doing, he adds, it allows them to achieve the ultimate prize of creating business to support the life they want to live.

After earning degrees in accountancy from Missouri State University – a bachelor’s in 2005, followed by a master’s the following year – Duckett rose from a staff accountant in 2006 at Coffman and Co. PC to shareholder at the end of 2010. In 2015, the certified public accountant, along with Bill Ladd, purchased the Springfield practice of the Poplar Bluff-based firm. The full-service public accounting firm Duckett Ladd LLP started with a staff of 12 but has since more than doubled to 28 employees.

Duckett’s annual billings also have grown by 14% between 2016 and 2018. Last year, he billed over $756,000 to 211 clients representing more than $15 million in assets.

Duckett says his goal is to impact his clients’ businesses by making their lives better through his firm’s services, which include auditing, bookkeeping, and tax and payroll services.

“We believe that life is too short to work on things you are not passionate about,” he says. “That is where we plug in to the business by allowing the business owner to outsource their weaknesses. Then, they can focus on what they are uniquely qualified to do so that they can achieve their ideal day. In doing this, the business owner can grow and scale their business to provide maximum value to their customers.”

Within the industry, Duckett is a member of the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He also looks to improve his firm through its membership in the Collective Genius and Freedom Founders mastermind groups, as well as RootWorks, a membership-based organization dedicated to serving the needs of tax and accounting firms.

“In these mastermind groups, we actively participate in sharing our wins and also ask for help in how we can improve our business,” he says.

Aside from his professional group involvement, Duckett also serves as treasurer of Champion Athletes of the Ozarks. He is also a graduate of Leadership Springfield Signature Class 35.

Duckett points to the importance of going the extra mile within any job someone may hold. On that point, he recalls helping an existing client as they considered shutting down their business amidst tough times and life-changing personal events. By making the client’s concerns a priority, he assisted with restructuring the business’ debt and preparing a cash-flow forecast.

“Long story short, he is in a new home with two new beautiful kiddos and still running a business that is growing every day,” he says. “Not a typical day in the life of an accountant, but those are the ideal days I strive for every day – making the clients’ lives better.”
