Having a job is one thing. Being able to use your job to make your community a better place is another thing.
Dianne Davis, president and owner of DL Media Inc., is privileged to do just that in several marketing campaigns her company has been tasked with.
One specific campaign DL Media developed is “Sink or Swim,” which addresses the epidemic of addiction in the United States. The program is currently adopted statewide and will soon begin in southwest Missouri.
“Without a doubt, my proudest accomplishment is the work we have done for nonprofits and alliances across the country,” Davis says. “The biggest accomplishment to date is our ongoing, multimedia campaign for Gloucester County, Virginia, ‘Sink or Swim.’”
Davis says this campaign was about more than a job. It was about having a vested interest in the communities impacted by addiction, which, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, is every single community across the country.
“Because the campaign addresses one of the most serious challenges our country is facing, I knew it was vital to get it right, each step of the way. From that, ‘Sink or Swim’ was born,” she says. “It has been an incredible honor for me to be involved in and to lead a campaign for this social issue … To know my agency and our work has a hand in fighting back, educating the public and providing a comprehensive recovery resources database is overwhelmingly gratifying.”
Davis creates a family environment within the workplace, not only cultivating the professional needs of her staff, but pushing them to impact the community themselves.
“On top of the work we do through DL Media, I also encourage my employees to support and give back to the community,” she says, adding that her staff is involved in organizations such as Stand Against Trafficking Coalition through the Community Partnership of the Ozarks, Least Of These and the Humane Society.
Longtime friend and peer, Judy Bilyeu, corporate marketing director for Metro Appliances & More, says Davis’ ethical leadership stands out.
“I appreciate Dianne’s ethics, her positive attitude and her heart for helping others. It’s also important to mention that the majority of her team has worked for her for 10 years or longer, which speaks volumes about their workplace environment,” Bilyeu says.
Continuing to extend a helping hand, Davis donates her personal time and services to several other nonprofit organizations.
Bilyeu says it is Davis’ quality of saying yes to opportunities that aid and support the needs of others that make her stand out as an influential member of the southwest Missouri community and beyond.
“People in the business community are constantly asked to donate their services for special events and causes. Dianne rarely turns down a request,” she says. “She has done pro bono work for organizations like Wish I May, CASA of Missouri and southwest Missouri and Ronald McDonald House of Northwest Arkansas.”
In an effort to provide flexibility to their workers, some area businesses are beginning to offer four-day workweeks.
