2013 W. Curtis Strube Small Business Award Finalist: J. Howard Fisk Limousines Inc.

Since its beginning as an appointment-only luxury car company in 1976, J. Howard Fisk Limousines Inc. has grown to provide a diverse slate of services targeting segments of the convention and visitor industry in four states.

However, the company’s history lies in rentals, and they remain true to those roots with an expansive fleet of executive cars, passenger vans, luxury SUVs, limousines, motor coaches and high-end luxury vehicles available for lease or rental.

“We have a larger fleet than necessary for the day-to-day demands,” President J. Howard Fisk says of the company’s 65 to 70 vehicles.

Fisk says the company realized major fluctuations in demand during the past 10 to 15 years, as the evolution of Branson-based convention services has drawn some previously dependable annual business southward. Today, Branson remains an important part of the company’s operations, though travel expenses make it a less-profitable market.

In addition to the fleet of manned and self-drive rental vehicles that have grown from the original endeavor, company products now include J.Fisk & Associates Ltd., offering convention planning and tour consulting; Bear Line University Transit, exclusively serving Missouri State University students with more than 1 million passenger trips annually; and Martin Rental & Leasing LLC, which leases limousines to operators in several major cities.

Fisk Limousines also has begun dispatching fixed segments of its fleet to conventions and events in cities within a 500-mile radius of the company’s Springfield headquarters. This strategy has led to the permanent placement of a dozen vehicles based in Kansas City.

Fisk Limousines has mirrored its service model in its support of the community. The company assists between 65 and 75 nonprofit organizations annually. During the companys 35 years in business, the Fisks have shared combined service on the boards of directors for more than 40 area nonprofit and civic agencies, most recently highlighted by Jan Fisk’s election to Springfield City Council in April 2013.
