Mission:
Harmony House’s mission is to provide shelter, advocacy and education to survivors of domestic violence while promoting the principle that all individuals have the right to a life free of abuse. The mission is supported by four agency goals: To provide short-term emergency protective shelter for survivors of domestic violence; To help survivors of domestic violence break the cycle of abuse through programs of education, support, referral and advocacy; To disseminate information to the community that promotes understanding about the factors involved in domestic violence, its prevalence, causes, patterns and prevention; To advocate for changes that will provide the opportunity for a lifestyle free of domestic violence for all people.

Service Area:  
Harmony House serves Springfield and Greene County, and also Barry, Bates, Camden, Christian, Dallas, Dent, Douglas, Howell, Jackson, Laclede, Lawrence, Oregon, Polk, McDonald, Newton, Stone, Taney, Texas, Webster and Wright Counties, as well as clients from other states as necessary.

Funding:  
Support for Harmony House during 2012 was generated from several sources, such as: private donations $243,415; non-cash contributions $170,918; government grants $515,163; United Way $68,937; other grants $59,288; municipal fees $93,337; fundraising events $15,217; Other $7,312.

12-Month Goals:
Some of the Harmony House Goals over the next twelve months include 1) Obtaining funding for outreach services and case management to assist with over 1,122 women and children (in 2012) that had to be turned away because of space limitations.  2) Harmony House will strive to increase the staff/client ratio and increase client services; 3) Initiate a Dating Violence Awareness campaign in the school systems and other locations conducive to teens and young adults; 4) Capital Campaign initiative for increasing the capacity of the emergency shelter and expand transitional housing for residents.

Annual Events:
October 2013 - Night of Unity to celebrate the survivors of domestic violence and to acknowledge work against domestic violence; Stop the Violence Conference presented by the Domestic Violence Prevention Task Force;   April 2014 - Rock'n Ribs sponsored by Springfield Rotary Clubs for which Harmony House is a charity to receive benefits;  May 2014 - Leather & Smoke Motorcycle Ride and Benefit.  Harmony House welcomes the support of corporate sponsors; individual donors, participants, and volunteers for all of the events.

How People and Businesses Can Help:  
Donations of cash, debit/credit card, appreciated stock, real estate, deferred giving, and other are essential to supporting Harmony House.  Donations over $100 may be eligible for a 50% Missouri Tax Credit.  In-kind donations of new or gently used items to assist the shelter and residents as they are ready to be on their own are appreciated, and include a tax-deductible donation.  Media and marketing opportunities are greatly appreciated.

Volunteer Opportunities:  
Volunteers are a vital part of day-to-day operations at Harmony House, as well as for all events.  The support of volunteers assist in providing higher quality services to the survivors of domestic violence.  We welcome volunteers to meet with the Volunteer Coordinator to find the best experience for their skills and talents.
