Service Area:
Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri was established in 2009 and serves the 39 southernmost counties in Missouri with offices in Springfield, Joplin, Van Buren, Sikeston and Cape Girardeau.
Funding:
We receive funding through a variety of sources including foundations, federal and state grants and contracts, in-kind contributions of goods and services, private donations and fundraising/special events.
12-month Goals:
1)Provide shelter, education and support for at least 35 women and children entering LifeHouse Crisis Maternity Home, resulting in healthy newborns and plans for permanent housing and employment; 2) Expand homeless prevention and financial counseling programs; 3)Continue natural disaster repair and rebuild program; 4)Expand family strengthening centers that provide supportive services for low-income families; 5)Continue and increase collaboration with other community service providers.
Annual Events:
Please join us on Saturday, November 9 at University Plaza for our annual dinner event. Sponsorships and volunteers are needed. As a young organization, we are evaluating and developing additional fundraising events.
How People and Businesses Can Help:
1)Make a financial donation; 2)Offer on-going support for a pregnant young woman living at LifeHouse Crisis Maternity Home; 3)Sponsor the yearly dinner event as a business or individual; 4)Invite us to speak to your employees, churches, and schools; 5)Join committees to help plan and carry out special events; 6)Give in-kind donations of needed goods and services; 7)Attend our fundraisers and special events; 8)Aid in disaster relief; 9)Volunteer; 10)Take advantage of the Missouri Crisis Maternity Home tax credit. Individuals or businesses making gifts of $100 or more receive a 50% state tax credit - half of the donation is deducted from the donor's state income tax liability dollar for dollar!
Volunteer Opportunities:
There are many volunteer opportunities such as mentoring a pregnant girl, teaching classes and skills, cooking, landscaping and gardening, office work, providing professional services, organizing donated items, and special projects. Volunteers are also needed to repair and rebuild homes destroyed in natural disasters.
Testimonial:
Catholic Charities wants to make a difference where help and hope are needed most. We discovered that there are many pregnant, homeless young women in this area with nowhere to go. Our crisis maternity home offers these young women a safe place to live where they can experience a healthy pregnancy and learn life skills that will help them create loving, self-sufficient families. Our programs will continue to grow in response to critical needs.
