After finishing his residency, Dr. Kevin Austin came to southwest Missouri five years ago to launch his orthodontic practice, Austin Orthodontics, in Nixa.
“I simply did the research, and saw that there was a fantastic opportunity for an orthodontic practice to succeed in the unserved Christian County,” Austin says. “Now, five years later, the people of this community have shown such great support that I am in the process of building a new, larger office to accommodate my growing practice.”
His new 6,000-square-foot office at 733 W. Center Circle in Nixa, is set for completion Aug. 1.
Austin says his proudest accomplishment is the treatment he provides to each of his patients, particularly when he and his team are able to exceed patients’ expectations.
“I am proud of the work that we do when we receive Christmas cards that say, ‘You have given my son the ability to smile again,’” Austin says. “I am proud of the smiles we have created, and those smiles will live on in my patients long after I am gone.”
Austin is dedicated to furthering his profession through involvement with local and state industry groups.
“As president of the Missouri Society of Orthodontists, I can work with orthodontists across the state to steer rule changes that will allow us to deliver safer, more effective and more efficient care to our patients,” says Austin, who also is a board member of the Greater Springfield Dental Society.
Austin also welcomes students of all ages who are interested in the dental field to shadow him at his office, and he participates in area career fairs. He also works to make sure that orthodontic care is available to those who need it. He is chairman of the local dental society’s Give Kids a Smile Day, which provides free dental care to needy children who attend Springfield public schools.
With Weaver Grant funds through the Community Foundation of the Ozarks, Austin also is able to provide orthodontic care to children whose families cannot afford it.
“One Weaver recipient who started treatment at my office was a very shy, withdrawn young lady who had already endured some terrible events in her life,” Austin says. “In the beginning, she would not say anything and would keep her eyes focused on the floor. When I had finished her treatment, she had changed into a confident, well-spoken woman preparing to go off to college.”[[In-content Ad]]
