May 4

7:30-9 a.m.
- Kickoff breakfast, presented by Rural Missouri Inc. and the local U.S. Small Business Administration branch office, at Dining by Design, 5021 S. National Ave. The cost is $10 per person in advance. To register, call the local SBA office at (417) 890-8501.

Noon-1:30 p.m. - Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce presents Business 2 Business Connection at the chamber office, 202 S. John Q. Hammons Parkway. The cost, $10 per person, includes lunch. Register at www.springfieldchamber.com.

May 5

9 a.m.-Noon
- Missouri State University's Small Business & Technology Development Center presents Understanding Financial Statements. The course will be held in MSU's Glass Hall. The workshop portion of this course will run 2-5 p.m., and the cost for each component is $109 per person. Preregistration is required. The SBDTC also will present a six-hour seminar on writing business plans on May 6-7 for $139 per person. Register at www.sbtdc.missouristate.edu.

6-8 p.m. - SCORE presents a workshop on buying and selling businesses, in the Library Center's Harrison Room, 4653 S. Campbell Ave. The cost is $30 per person; call SBA at (417) 890-8501 to register.

May 6

7:30-8:30 a.m.
- The chamber presents Good Morning, Springfield!, at University Plaza Hotel, 333 S. John Q. Hammons Parkway. The cost for chamber members is $13 per person. Register at www.springfieldchamber.com.

Noon-1:30 p.m. - The Small Business of the Year award luncheon will be held at University Plaza Hotel. The cost is $25 per person. Register at www.springfieldchamber.com.

May 7

Noon-1:30 p.m.
- Drury University's Edward Jones Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation presents a seminar on going global with small business in the president's dining room in Finlay Student Center. The cost is $10 per person, including lunch. To register, call Tammy Rogers at (417) 873-6357.

May 9

9:30-1 p.m.
