Accountants Bob Helm, David Kessler, Michael Pruett, Dee Robinson and Thomas Everett enjoy benefits at Elliott, Robinson & Co. including 100 percent-paid health insurance premiums.
Elliott, Robinson & Co. provides accounting service to individuals, businesses and not-for-profits, as well as business evaluations for corporate clients.
But for a company in an industry that can often be cut-and-dried and focused on the bottom line, its employees still manage to have plenty of fun at work, according to Firm Administrator Amanda Simmonds.
"(The) atmosphere is unbelievable, not what you would think of (as a) stuffy accounting firm. The people are very open," she says.
Fitting in with his fellow staff members is an important part of workplace atmosphere for Chris Myers, a staff accountant who was hired a year ago.
"I chose Elliott, Robinson & Co. mainly because of the people," Myers says. "Through the whole recruiting process you get to touch roughly seven or so different people who work at the firm, and you get ideas of personalities and how well you mesh."
Elliott, Robinson & Co., led by Managing Partner Bob Helm, pays 100 percent of the employees' health insurance premiums and offers access to group life insurance. The company also provides six paid holidays and two weeks of vacation for full-time employees.
Team memebers also can accrue compensatory time hour-for-hour.
Elliott, Robinson & Co. also offers tuition reimbursement for work-related continuing education
Once employees earn at least $5,000 in the previous year, they're eligible to participate in the company's 401(k) plan. The firm matches employee contributions up to 3 percent of the participating employee's salary, and participants are immediately vested in the plan.
Elliott, Robinson & Co.'s mentoring program supports incoming staff and builds relationships. Senior accountants are paired with new staff accountants to mentor them from Day 1 on the job.
"It's someone who has been in their shoes before, someone who sets them up for success," Simmonds says. "They're there for the new staff member to ask questions, bounce things off ... guide their career, find out where they want to be and help them get there."
The firm provides time for monthly lunches, meetings and ongoing evaluation by the staff accountants and the mentors.
Continuous evaluation of company processes is important at Elliott, Robinson & Co. so the firm can identify potential improvements and celebrate successes.
Matt Solidum, a CPA and supervisor who has been with Elliott, Robinson & Co. for seven years, finds the nontangible benefits to be the most important.
"We try to do what's right, no matter what the cost might be," he says.
"We're going to serve our clients with integrity and character. If we're challenged to push something, in the end we're going to do what's right. It might cost us, but we can always live with ourselves and feel at ease when we put our head on the pillow at night ... ."[[In-content Ad]]
