Summer Massey believes her approaches to leadership, respect, honesty and attitude have played vital roles in landing her where she is today.
The Bank of America vice president, who manages a portfolio of 100 customers, says she is quick to react in times of crisis, has long-term vision, respects others, has an “unbearable” conscience and is too busy to hold a grudge.
“As long as people are kind, they will get my respect, whether they are my grocery store bagger or my senator,” she said. “If you try to understand (others) they will try to understand you. I don’t feel my title should command respect from others; I feel my actions should earn their respect.”
Massey has focused on her strengths and her goals, and in the last seven years, she has moved through the banking world. Before becoming a vice president, she served as an analyst, a product-line manager, a commercial lender and a small-business banking sales manager.
“This July will mark my seventh year in banking,” Massey said. “I am proud of the accomplishments I have made in this market and industry in a relatively short period.”
But while advancement in the banking industry is an important goal for Massey, her family life rises to the top. Her husband, Jim, works in construction; son Jacob, 12, is a sixth-grader at Cherokee Middle School.
“Of all the goals I set for myself, being a good mom and wife top my list,” she said. “Being a good friend and good citizen are also very important to me, but my son and husband get first priority.”
Massey serves the community on several boards, at her local church and through volunteering with several organizations, including Salvation Army, Springfield Christmas Parade, Knights of Columbus’ Bowl-a-Thon for The Kitchen and Chris Sifford Day at the Park.
