Springfield, MO
After nine years away, Springfield native Kathryn Mihalevich has come to appreciate her hometown.
Mihalevich, a Glendale High School graduate, earned her undergraduate degree at Wake Forest University in North Carolina. Then, she headed to Saint Louis University, where she earned her law degree, a certificate in health care law and a master’s degree in health administration.
Mihalevich joined the firm of Blackwell Sanders Peper Martin LLP in 2004, working in the firm’s Springfield office.
“Being away for so long has made me appreciate all of the things Springfield has to offer,” she said. “I do believe very strongly in community involvement … and (I) do what I can to give back to the community where I grew up.”
Mihalevich serves on the boards of directors for the Doula Foundation of Mid-America and for Court Appointed Special Advocates of Southwest Missouri. She’s also involved with Junior League.
Blackwell Sanders supports its lawyers and helps them develop by working with more experienced attorneys. Mihalevich said she got some good business advice from Managing Partner Virginia Fry, who told her, “In the practice of law, we don’t get to create the facts. We just have to work with what we’ve got and make the best of it. In other words, it is what it is.”
Mihalevich said she enjoys the challenges of her work.
“Health care law is one of the most rapidly changing areas of law because Medicare legislation and guidance literally changes daily,” she said.
Mihalevich and her husband, Michael, have been married for nearly six years, dating in high school, getting married halfway through graduate school and enduring a long-distance marriage for three years.
“We … are thoroughly enjoying finally being in the same city together,” she said.
