1MC-Springfield uses coffee to fuel entrepreneurial success

Posted online
In its Coffee Week coverage, a Fast Company magazine writer took a close look at the 1 Million Cups group in Springfield and came away with evidence of coffee as a social lubricant.

Case in point is Springfield-based granola manufacturer Granolove. Fast Company interviewed co-owner Christine Daues, who said her 1MC presentation has resulted in media coverage and a contract with a national food distributor.

Fast Company’s Lisa Evans writes: “As a result of presenting at 1 Million Cups, Daues was approached by a couple of potential investors who opened up new avenues for funding. She also connected with a business reporter who wrote an article for the local business journal on her business. The article fell into the hands of the president of Sysco, a large food distributor – who then contacted Granolove and now distributes their products.”

“I directly attribute that [success] to 1 Million Cups,” Daues told Evans.

Fast Company's Coffee Week took a deep dive into the world of coffee purism and its offshoot businesses.
