The Missouri Department of Economic Development on Friday said that five southwest Missouri not-for-profit organizations have been approved for a total of $1,185,164 in tax credits under the Neighborhood Assistance Program.
The program allows nonprofits to raise private-sector funds by providing partial state tax credits to businesses that make contributions to approved community improvement projects. DED said that businesses can donate cash, materials, supplies or equipment; technical assistance and professional services; labor; real estate; or stocks and bonds. Credits can equal up to 50 percent of the total amount contributed or up to 70 percent for projects located in most rural areas.
The nonprofits that will receive NAP tax credits, and the amounts, are:
Boys & Girls Club of the Ozarks in Branson, $348,600. The club is expanding its Maximizing Out-of-School Hours program to include two Reeds Spring school campuses and create three staff positions.
Joplin Family YMCA, $350,000. The YMCA is constructing and renovating buildings to provide affordable child care.
Christian Associates of Table Rock Lake in Kimberling City, $167,962. Christian Associates is providing 450 Stone County households with housing assistance, including emergency shelter, transitional housing and rental/utility aid.
Mansfield Area Community Betterment, $224,070. The organization will institute a before- and after-school daycare service and provide classes/training on physical fitness, nutrition and academics.
Good Samaritan Care Clinic in Mountain View, $94,532. The clinic is renovating and expanding its space by 1,400 square feet to provide an additional 300 medical visits and 150 dental visits a year to uninsured and working poor individuals in Howell, Shannon and Texas counties.
According to the DED, not-for-profit organizations participating in the NAP program conduct capital campaigns or provide services in the areas of crime prevention, education, job training, physical revitalizations or community services in order to build more desirable place to live and work, and to pave the way for economic development.
