18 states sue Betsy DeVos

Democratic attorneys general from 18 states and the District of Columbia filed suit yesterday against the Education Department and Secretary Betsy DeVos.

The action challenges the department's move to freeze new rules last month that would erase the federal loan debt of student borrowers who were cheated by colleges that acted fraudulently.

The borrower defense rules were finalized in October by the Obama administration. They had been scheduled to take effect July 1.
