The amount is significant, said UDA Executive Director Rusty Worley, as it represents one-third of the nonprofit organization’s $300,000 annual operating budget.
“(The investment) is absolutely essential for us to carry on the programs and the support of the businesses in our center city districts,” Worley said. “It’s a testament to the momentum we’ve been able to accomplish over the last five years, and also to the optimism of what lies ahead for the next five years.”
The investors are: Bank of America; BKD LLP; Citizens National Bank; Commerce Bank; Empire Bank; Hlavacek, Morris, McIntyre, Yates & Danielson; Liberty Bank; Regions Bank; State Bank of Southwest Missouri; Town & County Clothiers; U.S. Bank; and Whitlock, Selim & Keehn.
Bob Lowe is owner of Town & County, 2660 S. Glenstone Ave., which is donating about $10,000 over five years. He said even though his business is not downtown, the donation helps the community at large.
“I think the (UDA) is doing a phenomenal job in the revitalization of the downtown area,” he said. “We derive the revenue of our company from the community, and anything that makes the community better in the long run will benefit not only us as individuals but our businesses as well.”
UDA coordinates activities and facilitates small business in Springfield’s three historic districts – downtown, Walnut Street and Commercial Street.
