Springfield Little Theatre is out $11,000 in box office revenue after misappropriations that the theatre learned about late last month.
The funds, according to an SLT news release, were not taken from the theater's general operating account or its accounts for grant funds, donor contributions or development campaigns.
Theater officials learned of the missing money after finding discrepancies during the preparation of its regular financial reports. The method of theft, and the employee responsible, were discovered within a few days. The unnamed employee was terminated, and the theater is making a claim to recover the missing money through an insurance policy, according to the release.
The theft remains under investigation. Husch Blackwell Sanders attorney Mike Bridges, who represents the theater, said the matter had been referred to Springfield police. He declined to comment further, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.[[In-content Ad]]
