Andy’s prepares to enter Sunshine State

Posted online

An Andy’s Frozen Custard franchisee is launching the concept in Florida with two planned stores by spring.

Rancher’s Custard Co., which currently operates 10 stores, is targeting a late February opening in Orlando, followed by an early spring launch in Sanford, Florida, according to a news release.

Eric Reed, co-owner and CEO of Springfield-based Rancher’s Custard, said he plans to open multiple other stores in the Orlando market within several years. Andy’s former director of new store development and a 10-year employee, Reed in 2015 signed a 20-store franchise deal with the Springfield company.

In Orlando, Andy’s will be located a half mile south of fellow Springfield company Bass Pro Shops’ Outdoor World store.

With Florida, Andy’s will have a portfolio of 59 shops in 11 states, from as far east as North Carolina to Arizona in the west, according to the release.

The company’s 56th and 57th stores recently launched in Mesa, Arizona, and Shawnee, Kansas, respectively.

During summer 2017, the custard chain hit the 50-store mark, though the company fell short of a 75-shop goal in 2017.

Andy’s spokesman Charlie Buchanan in December told Springfield Business Journal the company now is targeting 12-15 new stores annually.

According to EatAndys.com, franchisees invest $287,000 to $677,500 in initial fees to launch an Andy’s store.
