Chiefs quarterback to headline Steak & Steak

Posted online
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith agreed to be the featured speaker for Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield’s largest annual fundraiser.

The 21st annual Steak & Steak Dinner, which includes a steak dinner and charity auction, is scheduled April 11 at University Plaza Convention Center, according to a news release.

Last year’s event featuring former St. Louis Rams quarterback Kurt Warner raised more than $144,000 with 700 guests in attendance.

Smith joined the Chiefs in 2013 after eight seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. His first season with the Chiefs, Smith led the team to nine consecutive wins. In 2015, the Chiefs made the playoffs after starting the season with a 1-5 record, and the following season, Smith posted a career high in rushing touchdowns. In California, he also founded the Alex Smith Foundation to help foster teens find education, mentoring, housing and jobs, according to the release.

Past Steak & Steak Dinner guests include Brett Favre, Nick Saban, Tony La Russa, Lance Armstrong, Drew Brees, Bob Knight, Tony Gonzales, Dick Vitale and Peyton Manning.
