Kurt Warner to attend Boys & Girls Clubs fundraiser

Former St. Louis Rams quarterback Kurt Warner will be the featured speaker at the 20th annual Steak & Steak Dinner benefitting Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield.
The annual fundraiser, which includes a steak dinner and charity auction, is scheduled for April 29 at the University Plaza Convention Center, 333 S. John Q Hammons Parkway, according to a news release.
Warner, who led the Rams to a Super Bowl victory in 2000, joins a long line of sports figures who have previously attended the event as speakers, including Lance Armstrong, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Bill Russell and Peyton Manning.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield Resource Development Associate Phoebe Hicks said in the release last year’s event brought in attendance of roughly 1,000 and raised more than $220,000 for the nonprofit.
Proceeds from the Steak & Steak Dinner help to pay $40 per semester membership fees for 2,500 young people in the Springfield area, as well as the costs of annual programming, according to the release.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield provides programs for local youth including social, physical and educational development activities, which a special emphasis on disadvantaged and at-risk kids.
