Joplin-based EaglePicher plans to add a 100,000-square-foot expansion to one of its facilities in the city after announcing last week it won a significant U.S. Department of Defense contract.

The $22 million contract is to build affordable lithium-ion batteries used for military applications and devices, according to the Joplin Regional Business Journal.
