The Mentors Project: Dr. Gary Buzbee

Posted online
MENTEE
My sons and business partners, Drs. Todd and Tyler Buzbee, along with interns and students at Buzbee Dental.

OBJECTIVE
I strive to lead them to make the right career decision. By acknowledging their goals, providing feedback and input on their decision, and simple encouragement, I hope to influence them in a positive way.

HOW
We have dental assisting students placed in our office as part of their training. It is always a good feeling to see the wheels turning when a student actually gets to participate in the procedures they had only read about up to that point.

RESULTS
Measuring the success of mentoring is seen when they have those aha moments of sudden realization, inspiration, insight, recognition, comprehension but ultimately passion for the industry. An example would be Todd and Tyler joining the profession.

BREAKTHROUGHS
The breakthrough moments include taking a team approach to our practice and reaching the point where each one of us took a lead role in areas of our expertise. I enjoy leading our team in marketing, community outreach and general dentistry. Whereas, Todd now leads the practice providing orthodontic care (and) Tyler leads the advanced dental technology component.

YOUR MENTOR
My parents, H.O. and Polly Buzbee, who instilled in me every value I have. Later, I met Mick Denniston, and he taught me everything else.
