R.B. Murray Co. lists SPS properties

Posted online
R.B. Murray Co. this month listed two former Springfield Public Schools buildings on the market.

Between the two properties - the former Bailey and Pepperdine schools - SPS is seeking $550,000. Bailey, 501 W. Central St., is listed at $300,000, and Pepperdine, 1518 E. Dale St., is priced at $220,000, according to listings provided by R.B. Murray.

At 3 p.m. today, SPS is scheduled to host a preproposal meeting for potential buyers at the Kraft Administration Center, 1359 St. Louis St. During the meeting, interested parties can ask questions and seek further information on the properties. The SPS Board of Education would evaluate proposals based on the bid amount and a number of other factors, including planned use and the impact on the community. The buildings are listed for sale separately.

Built in 1930, the nearly 30,000-square-foot Bailey building sits on 1.95 acres. Pepperdine, which was built in 1919 and renovated in 1988, sits on 2.2 acres and is over 21,500 square feet.

SPS spokeswoman Teresa Bledsoe said the Bailey and Pepperdine buildings were vacated in the 2013-14 school year, when students moved to the Study Alternative Center, 2343 W. Olive St.

The SPS board declared the buildings as surplus property last month.
