Wilson Logistics plans multimillion-dollar terminal in Strafford

A Springfield over-the-road trucking company is expanding in the next town over with a new terminal.

Wilson Logistics Inc. is planning an estimated $7 million-$8 million development in Strafford on 100 acres the company owns off Interstate 44 east of Camping World, said owner Darrel Wilson.

“To start off, it’ll be 35,000 square feet for the administration building, some shop buildings and cafeteria,” he said. “We’ll have a nice trucking community out there.”

The first phase of development calls on the construction of the administration building, with a truck plaza planned in Phase II, said Ron Slone, president of Slone Architects & Interior Designers Inc., the project architect.

“Phase II will be a truck plaza building that’s 10,000 square feet,” Slone said, adding there isn’t a scheduled date for the second phase, but it could begin during the construction of Phase I.

Wilson has not yet hired a general contractor, and Slone said the bidding process is scheduled to begin in May 2019.

The project is scheduled to break ground in spring 2019 and, after 18 months of development, is slated to open in summer 2020, Wilson said.

Unique features of the corporate campus include two man-made lakes spanning over an acre each for detention facilities, Slone said, noting they also would be an aesthetic amenity.

“The city of Strafford is very excited for the jobs it will bring,” Slone said. “They’ve been very positive in their repose to Wilson Logistics developing the land.”

The trucking company has 800 trucks in its fleet and offices in Springfield, Idaho, Washington, Montana and Oregon.

With 2017 revenue of $160 million, the company currently has 1,000 employees, more than 600 of whom are local, Wilson said. The company operates in Springfield at 3769 E. Evergreen St.
