UnitedHealth's quarterly profits more than double

Insurer UnitedHealth Group reported fourth-quarter net earnings attributable to shareholders of $3.6 billion, or $3.65 per share.

That's up from $1.68 billion, or $1.74 per share, from the same quarter ended Dec. 31, 2016.

A year earlier, the company's bottom line was adversely affected by a $1.2 billion provision for income tax.
