Tourism consultancy CSL International is recommending that Joplin build an indoor sports venue to attract visitors and bring in more revenue.
The firm was hired to study potential tourism boosters in the area.
Sports tourism investment is sought cooperatively by the Joplin Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Joplin Sports Authority, the Southwest Missouri Lodging Association and others.

A safe room and classroom addition at Willard Central Elementary School will be used by the music, arts and athletic programs for a district that had 4,536 students last year, according to Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education figures, but school officials say enrollment is projected to grow.
