Time Traveler helps drive record attendance at Silver Dollar City

Silver Dollar City hit an attendance record in 2018 after opening the season with the launch of Time Traveler, its costliest coaster to date at $26 million.

The 2.18 million guests who visited the amusement park came close to beating projections of 100,0000 more visitors on top of the 2.1 million figure set last season. Silver Dollar City President Brad Thomas forecasted the projection in April as Springfield Business Journal’s guest for the 12 People You Need to Know live interview series.

“This year’s record-breaking attendance is contributed to the fact that, throughout the entire year, increasing numbers of families and adult couples are making the journey to visit both Silver Dollar City and Branson," Thomas said in a news release issued this morning.

Silver Dollar City publicist Dalton Fischer said a record 518,000 visitors — up 12,000 guests from last year — also traveled to the park for holiday attraction An Old Time Christmas, which ended Dec. 30. Silver Dollar City recently was voted the best holiday theme park in the United States by USA Today readers.

Silver Dollar City also was named the fourth-best amusement park in the nation in a June USA Today poll.

The 59-year-old Branson amusement park is owned by Herschend Family Entertainment Corp.
