Pop star Taylor Swift made a donation to Springfield nonprofit Convoy of Hope to help Louisiana families affected by historic flooding in August.
Convoy of Hope spokesman Jeff Nene said the donation would expand the organization’s efforts to help uninsured residents rebuild from flooding damage. The amount was undisclosed.
“She started her recent tour in Louisiana and just had a great reception there,” Nene said of Swift. “She decided she wanted to do something significant. They found several organizations that are working down there.”
The 26-year-old singer in August committed to donate $1 million to help Louisiana flood victims. That month, she donated $50,000 to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, according to
People.com.
To date, Convoy of Hope has distributed nearly 1.5 million pounds of emergency relief supplies in Louisiana.
Swift is not the first celebrity to help the Convoy of Hope cause.
In 2011, the
Jonas Brothers donated $70,000 to fund daily feeding for school children in Haiti, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Kenya, as well as a weekly family feeding program in the Philippines. Drew Brees, quarterback for the New Orleans Saints,
also has made donations for a couple different projects, Nene said.
“The celebrity aspect of those donations helps a lot because when they give, a lot of times their fans give as well,” he said.
