Greene County ranked second statewide on financial data tracking firm SmartAsset’s study on the best places to secure a mortgage.
The report examines borrowing costs, ease of mortgage approvals, property taxes and annual mortgage payments.
Greene County had:
• a loan funding rate of 71.5 percent;
• $75,435 in average five-year borrowing costs;
• $11,366 in average property taxes; and
• $14,537 in average annual mortgage payments.
The county scored 61.38 out of a possible 100 points on the study.
With an overall score of 88.38, Jackson County ranked first in Missouri. Local counties Webster and Christian placed fifth and sixth, respectively. Webster County’s score was 60.67, while Christian County had a 60.49 total, according to the report.
Here are Webster and Christian counties’ details:
• loan funding rate: 65.5 percent for Webster, 69.48 percent for Christian;
• five-year borrowing costs: $75,435 for both counties;
• property tax: $7,784 for Webster, $11,243 for Christian; and
• annual mortgage payment: $14,537 for both counties.
Greene County ranked 1,827th nationally, while Webster placed 1,920th and Christian was No. 1,943. The No. 1 across the country was Summit County, Colorado. In fact, all of the top 10 counties are in Colorado, according to SmartAsset.
