Zimmer Midwest Communications Inc.'s second-annual radiothon to benefit Honor Flight of the Ozarks topped the inaugural year in donations.

The 12-hour radiothon on Aug. 18 brought in $38,770 for Honor Flight, which sends local veterans to visit memorials in Washington, D.C., according to a news release. Last year’s event raised $35,870, according to past reporting.

"The people of southwest Missouri came through for our veterans again, with a record amount raised for any Honor Flight of the Ozarks Radiothon, and we thank them for their generous donations," said Don Louzader, Zimmer-Springfield news director and operations manager, in the release.

Participating Zimmer stations were 93.3 KWTO, 98.7 The Dove, 101.3 Real Country and 96.9 The Jock.

Two more Honor Flights are planned this year on Aug. 23 and Oct. 25, according to the release.
