Putin wins new 6-year term

Vladimir Putin easily won a new six-year term as Russia's president on Sunday.

Should he serve to the end of his fourth term that expires in 2024, he would become the longest-serving leader of Russia since Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin.

Anti-corruption campaigner Alexei Navalny, an outspoken critic of Putin, was barred from participating in the election on a fraud conviction many view as politically motivated.
