Photo Gallery: New Fire in the Hole debuts at Silver Dollar City

Silver Dollar City this weekend is set to debut the second generation of its Fire in the Hole attraction.

March 30 is set as launch day for the roller coaster that's themed around a historic event: the burning of the town of Marmaros on the present site of the park by the Baldknobbers, a band of vigilantes active in the 1880s. Springfield Business Journal was among publications invited to a media event this morning to preview the attraction.

"Fire in the Hole is a testament to the hard work and ingenuity of the men and women who work here at Silver Dollar City," said Brad Thomas, president of Silver Dollar City, in a news release. "Work on this massive addition started back in 2021, with planning much before that. They have poured tens of thousands of hours into this project, and their craftsmanship can be seen in every nook of this ride, from the queue line and coaster building, all the way to the hand-painted backdrops and lush foliage."

The $30 million project was announced last year after Silver Dollar City indicated it was retiring Fire in the Hole. The original attraction was introduced in 1972.
