The city of Springfield on Jan. 4 relocated the Department of Environmental Services’ clean water division to a $2.76 million building at 755 N. Franklin Ave. The roughly 12,000-square-foot office was constructed by general contractor Branco Enterprises Inc. and designed by Sapp Design Associates Architects PC. Environmental Services Assistant Director Errin Kemper said the move consolidates some employees’ offices from the city’s sewer maintenance and public works facilities. Escape Games Unlimited LLC co-owners Jake Jensen, Travis Cornelius and Joel Johnson on April 1 opened Springfield Escape Room at 3554 S. Campbell Ave. in Kickapoo Corners. In 1,800 square feet leased from Bill Beall Co., Springfield Escape Room has two themed rooms, where guests try to solve puzzles in order to complete a set of objectives to unlock the room within an hour time limit. General Manager John Lepant said pricing is $28 per person for one or two players, $26 per person for three or four, and $23 per person for groups of five or more. A large-group discount kicks in at 20 people or more, he said. The Escape Room employs one full-time and three part-time game masters, who assist with resetting rooms and puzzles and monitoring players. Based in Nebraska, Escape Games Unlimited also operates escape rooms in Lincoln, Neb., Des Moines, Iowa, and Greenville, S.C. W.H. Braum Inc.
Oklahoma City-based W.H. Braum Inc. on May 3 opened a store at 3020 E. Sunshine St., its sixth Braum’s in Springfield. Formerly the site of a Burger King, the new 5,000-square-foot restaurant was built at a cost of $570,000, according to a city building permit. Braum’s spokeswoman Amanda Beuchaw said the restaurant seats 75 and features a double-lane drive thru and Fresh Market grocery store. District Manager Drew Sims oversees the store, which is Braum’s’ 280th across Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Texas.
