BYOPizza
Music, television and film writer Michael Felts opened the first of five planned BYOPizza stores in the Springfield area. The Dec. 31 launch at Wilhoit Plaza, 431 S. Jefferson Ave., Ste. 100, is Felts’ third in the build-your-own franchise concept he started a year ago. Nashville, Tenn.-based BYOPizza operates in West Texas and Southern California, said Felts, who splits his time between Nashville and Los Angeles working for All 3 Media. In BYOPizza, he has partnered with former Dallas Cowboys player Daniel Loper, country music singer Jerrod Niemann and songwriter Richie Brown to sell the franchise concept. Felts said startup is $175,000 per store, and the franchise fee is $35,000 with 8 percent royalties collected. He said leases are signed for two additional corporate stores on Republic Road, at Fremont Avenue and Kansas Expressway, and he plans to open in Ozark and Branson. In downtown Springfield, he signed a five-year lease for $2,000 a month with Matt Miller Co. BYOPizza sells individual pizzas with toppings from crab to hot dogs for $5 to $8 apiece. A patented oven, valued at $45,000, cooks the pizzas in less than 90 seconds, he said. Hours: 11 a.m.–10 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday and 11–2 a.m. Thursday through Saturday. Phone: (417) 862-2967. Bair’s All-American Sports Grill
Bair’s All-American Sports Grill added its fourth restaurant with a Dec. 4 opening in Nixa at Champions Landing, 105 W. Sherman Way. Owner Tim Bair said the 5,200-square-foot space is the largest among two in Springfield and the first grill in Republic, which opened in late 2007. Bair employs 140 total and 50 in Nixa, where he invested $170,000 for renovations and an audio/video system. He said the DirecTV sports package uses eight satellite receivers, run through an iPad, that can stream video to some 44 screens. Specializing in hamburgers, Bair’s offers 50 varieties after a menu redesign in October. Bair said he signed a five-year lease for $12 a square foot with landlord Bobby Robertson. The restaurant space was previously occupied by Longhorn Grill, and Bair adjoined a second suite for total capacity of 240, including a private room. Hours: 11 a.m.–11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11–1:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m.–10 p.m. Sunday. Phone: (417) 725-3777. Web: BairsBurgers.com
