Officials break ground on new jail in Ava

Douglas County officials broke ground Monday on a new jail and sheriff's office in Ava.

Voters in November approved a new half-cent sales tax for the $5.5 million project.

The Ava Industrial Development Corp. essentially donated the six acres for the facility by selling the land to the sheriff's department for $1.
