McDonald's announced today it will test plastic-straw alternatives at select U.S. stores.
The company also indicated it will adopt more eco-friendly paper straws at all of its 1,361 restaurants in the United Kingdom and Ireland. There, McDonald's has been testing the alternative straws.
The move comes amid an environmental outcry related to plastic straws. Both California and New York City are considering banning them.
