The Federal Trade Commission is proposing a rule that would bar Facebook parent company Meta from monetizing children's data.
FTC officials cited an independent assessor that found "several gaps and weaknesses in Facebook's privacy program" that posed "substantial risks to the public."
Additionally, the FTC has accused Meta of violating the Children's Online Privacy Protection Rule by misrepresenting parental controls on the Messenger Kids app, CNBC reports.
