Buc-ee’s has announced a mass hiring event for its new location.

The 100-pump travel center is nearing completion at 3284 N. Beaver Road – formerly North Mulroy Road – located off Interstate 44 in the northeast corner of the city.

A grand opening date has not been set by officials, and the announcement of the hiring event does not specify one; however, employment sites Indeed and ZipRecruiter, which have listings for the positions at the new store, say it will open in fall 2023.

According to past Springfield Business Journal reporting, the 53,000-square-foot travel center will employ 175-225 people full time.

The invitation-only hiring event is set for 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, Oct. 15-19, at University Plaza Hotel and Convention Center, 333 John Q. Hammons Pkwy. Those who apply for full-time positions at Buc-ees.com may receive an invitation through a phone call or text message, the announcement states.

The announcement adds that compensation starts at $18-$21 per hour, paid weekly, and includes medical, dental, vision and 100% match for up to 6% on a 401(k) employer-sponsored retirement savings plan. Additionally, employees annually receive three weeks paid time off that they can use, roll over or cash out.

The employment area of Buc-ee’s website offers a pull-down menu for categories of jobs that are available. Options listed are store bookkeeper, merchandise sales associate, janitorial/cleaning and maintenance attendant, grocery stocker, deli/food service associate, cashier, night manager and team leader.

A Buc-ee’s spokesperson did not respond to a request for information by deadline for this story. The Buc-ee’s website still indicates the estimated opening of the travel center as 2024.

Articles always neglect to mention the 16 EV charging spots Tesla is putting in, which I believe is the most at any one site in the state.
