CoxHealth promotes execs for community hospital group

Posted online

CoxHealth created a new community hospital group and promoted existing executives to lead it following the recently finalized purchase of a Lamar health center.

The Springfield-based health care system launched the community hospital group to oversee its Branson, Monett and Lamar hospitals, as well as its affiliation agreement with Texas County Memorial Hospital, said CoxHealth spokeswoman Kaitlyn McConnell.

“These hospitals are grouped together because of the similarities of managing smaller outlying hospitals — in contrast to the different challenges of managing larger tertiary hospitals like in Springfield,” she said via email.

The group’s creation, according to a news release, was necessary following the purchase of Lamar-based Barton County Memorial Hospital — now called Cox Barton County Hospital. The acquisition brought CoxHealth’s hospital total to six staffed by nearly 11,500 employees.

CoxHealth promoted Cox Medical Center Branson President William Mahoney to system senior vice president leading the community hospital group. The former CEO of Skaggs Regional Medical Center before the Branson hospital was purchased in 2012 by CoxHealth, Mahoney will retain his title as Cox Medical Center Branson president.

The community hospital group’s second-in-command is Darren Bass, who’s also president of Cox Monett Hospital. He was promoted to also serve as system vice president for the new community group, according to the release.

Assistant General Counsel Ashley Schuette was promoted to deputy general counsel of the community hospital group. Josh Powell, Cox Monett Hospital’s financial controller, was promoted to have controller responsibilities over the Monett and Barton County hospitals.

CoxHealth also chose to keep Wendy Duvall on as president of Cox Barton County Hospital, according to the release.
