Posted online

Kansas City-based Commerce Bancshares Inc.’s (Nasdaq: CBSH) Springfield region promoted two officers and hired another.

Executive Vice President Keith Noble, who also has led Commerce Bank’s Springfield commercial division, was promoted to president. Former market President Bob Hammerschmidt became vice chairman, reporting directly to Springfield region Chairman and CEO Doug Neff, according to a news release.

“Keith and Bob are outstanding bankers and leaders at Commerce Bank and in the community,” said Doug Neff, chairman and CEO of Commerce’s Springfield region, in the release. “Brent has established himself as a premier banker with strong customer relationships and deep banking knowledge.

“Together, their leadership will continue to ensure we are delivering the highest level of quality banking services to our customers and the community.”

Noble will continue to work in commercial banking and payments solutions, in addition to his new responsibility of growing and retaining client relationships in the region. Hammerschmidt, who has more than 40 years of banking experience, will focus on customer relationships, as well as representing Commerce Bank in the community via civic and philanthropic endeavors.

Commerce Bank’s Springfield region also hired Brent Baldwin as Noble’s successor for the executive vice president and commercial banking division manager roles, according to the release. Baldwin comes to Commerce Bank from BancorpSouth Inc. (NYSE BXS), where he was executive vice president of commercial banking, according to his LinkedIn profile.

During 2017, Commerce Bancshares reported an earnings gain of 16.5 percent to $310.4 million. Last year, the company was eclipsed by Great Southern Bancorp Inc. (Nasdaq: GSBC) in terms of deposits held in the Springfield metropolitan statistical area. As of June 30, Commerce had $1.2 billion in deposits, or 12.1 percent of the MSA, according to Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. data.
