Community Foundation of the Ozarks is scheduled this afternoon to give out $125,000 in grants to 16 Springfield-area nonprofits.
Part of the Metro Springfield Community Response Challenge, the organizations were asked to raise matching funds, meaning the full amount going to the agencies is $250,000, according to a news release.
Responding to "red-flag" issues identified in the
Community Focus Report for Springfield-Greene County, CFO funds are supporting:
- Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ozarks, $8,500 to cover the costs of an additional north-side case manager;
- Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield, $9,500 to support health and wellness programs;
- Boys and Girls Town of Missouri, $7,500 to support residential and short-term services for children and families;
- Care to Learn, $7,500 to buy health, hunger and hygiene supplies for area children;
- Council of Churches of the Ozarks Ambassadors for Children, $9,500 to buy clothing, hygiene and health care products for foster children;
- Council of the Churches of the Ozarks Safe to Sleep, $2,500 to purchase supplies, gasoline and hotel vouchers for families facing domestic abuse;
- Court Appointed Special Advocates of Southwest Missouri, $9,500 to support the costs of recruiting, training and utilizing community volunteers;
- Harmony House, $9,500 to cover the materials costs of 883 bed-nights for domestic violence survivors;
- Ozarks Literacy Council, $9,500 to buy supplies for six instructional training sessions;
- Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Ozarks Inc., $9,500 to buy dental equipment and supplies for the Tooth Truck;
- Sigma House of Springfield, $2,000 to buy materials and pay for expenses related to counselor training;
- The Arc of the Ozarks, $7,500 to support program costs of its Norton Home to provide long-term care for the disabled;
- The Child Advocacy Center, $9,500 to perform forensic interviews with children suspected of being victims of abuse;
- The Kitchen Inc., $8,500 to extend partnerships with nurses, physicians' assistants and the The Robert J. Murney Clinic at Forest Institute;
- The Victim Center, $9,500 to support efforts to help adult and children victims of traumatic violent crimes; and
- Watershed Committee of the Ozarks, $5,000 to support a partnership with City Utilities to promote high-efficiency toilets.
