Bitcoin hits new record high

Bitcoin shot past the $7,000 mark for the first time yesterday before hitting $7,400 on Friday.

This morning, the cryptocurrency reached a new high of $7,454.04.

"This is bitcoin crossing the divide from the wild west of finance to the mainstream," Charles Hayter, CEO of cryptocurrency comparison website Crypto Compare, told CNBC.
