Auditor launches state spending portal

Posted online
Missourians now have access to an online portal showing the state government’s most recent expenditures.

Launched by Missouri Auditor Nicole Galloway, the platform shows the state general revenue fund’s daily beginning and ending balances, as well as deposits and withdrawals, according to a news release.

Yesterday, the general revenue fund started at $340.9 million and ended at $359.8 million. During the day, $25.1 million was deposited into the fund and $6.2 million was withdrawn.

“Many people have the convenience of checking their own bank account online or on their phones, and now they can check up on the state's finances in much the same way," Galloway said in the release. "These are citizens' tax dollars and Missourians have a right to know how much the state is spending and how much we have left at the end of each day."

The portal currently does not detail what comprises the deposits and withdrawals, but Galloway said her office has plans to disclose that information at a later date.

The project is part of Galloway’s Budget Integrity Series designed to identify the causes behind a state budget shortfall of more than $500 million in the next fiscal year, according to the release.
